Lamine Yamal’s comments during an interview on Universo Valdano have sent shockwaves through the international football media landscape.
"Who would I give it to? The best player in the world. Who will they give it to? That's a very long conversation," Lamine responded, in the latest episode of the popular Spanish TV programme, when asked by Jorge Valdano who deserves football’s biggest individual prize.
"I sincerely believe that as the best in the world there are perhaps two of us, but this year I would deserve it. For me, it's me and [Kylian] Mbappé who are the best. Everyone who watches the games knows it", he added.
