The summer transfer window often entails stories of love for a club’s colours, but it can also produce situations in which the line between romantic commitment and genuinely hurting the club becomes dangerously blurred.
Marc Casadó’s departure, completed at the last minute on Monday night in the form of a loan move to Deportivo de La Coruña, is the perfect reflection of a personal decision that, no matter how much certain sections of his entourage try to portray it as an act of pure Barcelona devotion, has ultimately harmed the club’s interests.
The roadmap set out by the club from the very beginning was impeccable, both in its approach and in its expected execution. From the first day of pre-season, both the sporting directors and the coaching staff made it absolutely clear to the academy graduate, with complete transparency, that he was not part of their plans for this season.
