Identifying the Gaps
With six days until the transfer window shuts at the time of writing, uncertainty continues to loom over FC Barcelona and their next orders of business. Paradoxically, that uncertainty has only been exacerbated by Barça’s thumping 5-0 victory over Elche at the weekend. The reason is simple: we witnessed the fluidity and dynamism of Barcelona’s frontline first-hand, even without a recognised senior No. 9 leading it.
Goals flowed, combinations came naturally and, perhaps most importantly, there was little sense that the attack was crying out for another body simply for the sake of having one. That does not necessarily change Barça’s long-term need for a striker. If anything, it strengthens the argument that the club can afford to be patient.
